This October my goal is to run an Antwerp Marathon. I plan to do this as a fundraiser for the charity Cherut. (you can read more here )
The reason I want to do this is because I am convinced that every person has an unmeasurable inherent worth as a precious human being. Also, because human trafficking is a gross violation of their dignity and their fundamental human right and nobody should be a slave.
That is why I am taking a stand against this injustice and want to support and raise funds for the outstanding work that Cherut is doing among the victims of forced prostitution and exploitation.
Cherut has three main focuses with their activities:
- Being present in the various prostitution districts in Belgium for building connections and looking opportunities for assistance.
- Support and assistance is then offered by social workers and counsellors.
- Providing an empowering community that stands next to the women on their transition away from forced prostitution into self-reliant living and freedom.
I have known Cherut for more than 10 years of the diligent, holistic and sensible approach they demonstrate in their work. However, as with many other NGO’s they can only keep making a difference by gifts from individuals and partners. This is where we come in!
My fundraising goal for the work of Cherut is 3000 euros. Here is one example of the needs:
The organization has been able to purchase a farm in a beautiful location in Flemish Brabant. Over the past year, they have worked hard to get everything ready. The doors will officially open in November 2025!
Cherut Shelter Farm: A safe place with personalised care and support for women leaving forced prostitution.
To give you an idea of the costs:
- 1 week of crisis care: €250
- Care package: €150
- 1 month's stay: €500
- Contribution to transportation costs for a 1-month stay: €50
Every amount is welcome and will enable them continuing offering the feasible choice for freedom to the victims of forced prostitution.
